Meet the Artist: Greg Metler photography, MPC Class May 19th from 3-4 pm

Photography students from the Alternative Process Course taught by Greg Mettler at Monterey Peninsula College will be exhibiting their photographs at Sweet Elena's Cafe and Bakery. Students in this course use non-traditional and historic processes to create one-of-a-kind fascinating photographic works. Opening reception on Friday 5/19 3-4 pm. Exhibition runs until 6/19.

Nani's Torta de Capri

A beautiful flourless chocolate cake from the ilsand of Capri made with extra virgin olive oil.

Serves 12 - 14
You will need: 9" spring form pan lined with baking sheet to remove cake easily.

• 6 oz unsweetened chocolate ground fine but not oily
• 1-1/2 c sliced natural almonds ground fine but not oily
• 5 large eggs, separated
• 1 c granulated sugar
• 2 t finely grated orange zest
• 1 t vanilla extract
• 1 t almond extract
• 14 T extra virgin olive, the best you can get

• Whip yolks by themselves first, then continue whipping them while slowly adding the olive oil, as if you would make a mayonnaise
• Add flavoring, orange peel, vanilla & almond extracts. Set aside.
• Whip egg whites, slowly adding all the sugar to form a stiff meringue that will help the cake to stay fluffy
• Fold yolks/olive oil mixture, meringue, chocolate and almond mixture all together
• Bake at 300 for about 45 minutes, center should feel firm
• Run a knife around the cake to all it to fall easily
• Serve with whipped cream and berries

The house features a large open style kitchen and living room (the French call this a "piece a vivre") with a fireplace, dishwasher, refrigerator, fully equipped kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 shower, 1 toilet, washing machine, line dry clothes, sleeps a family of 4 - 5 maximum. The house does not have TV, telephone or WiFi.
